In p-block elements (i.e. 14 th group here), the lower oxidation state becomes more stable on going down the group due to inert pair effect. Thus, Pb 4+ is less stable than Sn 4+ . This makes the Pb 4+ a stronger oxidizing agent. Therefore, the statement-2 is incorrect.
